Health and Career Education

Each of the Middle Schools in our district has been allotted some time to help promote Career Education for our students.

Broad Intentions of Career Development

Career Development is an ongoing process in our School District, under the direction of district Career Programs staff. The belief is that learners integrate their personal, family, school, work and community learning experiences to facilitate career and lifestyle choices. Because of this, we want to broaden the opportunities for students to interact with the community, and for the community to become involved with the school.

Some of the services which are available include:
Help in planning and financial support for field trips which have a curricular connection
Access to almost 300 Community Presenters willing to come into schools
Opportunities for job shadowing
Community Information Catalogs listing many details regarding speakers, field trips, etc.

Career Programs at the Middle School level is considered a time for Career Exploration. Students should be trying to expand their knowledge of various career areas instead of just focusing on one specific career.

Students may begin accumulating work exploration activities at the grade seven level. Grade 9 students should have a goal to leave middle school with a minimum of 20 work exploration activities. When students have completed the requirements attached to each activity (usually a written reflection sheet), their experience will be recorded in the district computer - for use in their grad portfolio.  A hard copy will be available for their personal use.

Listed below are some of the ways students accumulate activities through school organized events.
